Dear Reader,

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT I, RAYMOND J COOPER,
AM AN ARTIST IN REALITY PICTORIAL AND AUDIBLE
AND WRITTEN REFRENCES TO MYSELF MAY
OR MAY NOT BE FICTIONAL...

I was born in Lahore Pakistan in 1954, to a British Indian father - a product of wealth and classist power - and an Indian mother born from priestly Hindu parents with simple values.

I was reborn in Calgary Canada in the late sixties, in a manner of speaking, from the spirits of Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Goya, El Greco, Emily Carr, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Carlos Castenada, Jean Paul Sartré, Esher, Yes, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Heinlien, Robert Silverberg, Buckminister Fuller, Jim Morrison, and scores of other creative minds.

Yes, dear reader, my education has many forms; but formally I dropped out of the U of C Fine Arts after the first quarter. I had been a serious painter since grade eleven at Bishop Grandin H. School. My work is based on psychological journeys.

In terms of style, many critics have stated that it is raw. Well, it is! For the sake of originality I follow myself.

By the way I am not self-taught - "no man is an island", plus I officially apprenticed with a landscape painter.

In conclusion, to sum up my life as an artist, I leave you with a few quotes from my copy of Peter's Quotations.

Art is either revolutionist or plagarist. - Paul Gaugin
I shut my eyes in order to see. - Paul Gaugin
Art-speech is the only truth. An artist is usually a damned liar, but his art, if it be art, will tell the truth of his day. - D.H. Lawrence
Yours truly, Raymond Cooper.
